At Yorkview Dental, we know how important your first visit is in laying the foundation for a lasting relationship built on trust, comfort, and clear communication. That’s why we take the time to get to know you, not just your teeth.
During your initial appointment, you’ll receive a comprehensive oral exam (COE), have the opportunity to ask any questions, and get clear, professional guidance to make informed decisions about your dental health. No rush, no pressure, just personalized care tailored to you!
We’re excited to welcome you to Yorkview Dental!
What Is a Comprehensive Oral Exam (COE)?
If this is your first visit and you’re not visiting us for an emergency or urgent issue, we’ll typically begin with a Comprehensive Oral Exam, or COE, which is an in-depth evaluation that goes far beyond a routine check-up. We firmly believe in this approach because experience has shown us that it forms the foundation of every thorough oral health assessment. This allows us to identify your unique needs and deliver personalized dental care with treatment plans that are fully optimized for your smile and long-term health.
The COE exam includes:
- A review of your medical and dental history
- A full-mouth series of x-rays and photographs
- A detailed assessment of your head, neck, jaw, soft tissues, teeth, and gums
- Screening for gum disease, decay, and alignment issues
What Happens Next?
Once we have gathered and reviewed your records and digital x-rays, your dentist will walk you through their findings, and share all images related to your oral health, all while clearly explaining the current state of your oral health, any concerns, and recommended next steps. Once again, we encourage you to ask for clarifications and ask any questions, if you have any.
You and your dentist will then discuss your customized treatment plan outlining:
- Procedures needed to restore or maintain your dental health
- Timeline of appointments
- Associated costs and insurance considerations
At Yorkview Dental, our goal is to give you a complete picture of your oral health, so you feel confident and informed moving forward.
